3. Processing of personal data
Your data processed when using our website will be deleted or blocked as soon as the purpose of storage no longer applies, there are no legal obligations to retain the data, and no other information about individual processing procedures is provided below.

Visiting the platform
Every time you access and use the TU Hamburg website, data and information are automatically collected by the system. This data and information is stored in server log files.

Specifically, the following data is stored for each access:

  • IP-Address
  • Date and Time
  • Page accessed
  • Transferred file
  • Operating system
  • Browser Version
  • Previously accessed page

The legal basis for storing the data and log files is Art. 6 (1) (e) in conjunction with § 4 HmbDSG GDPR. The processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller. The temporary storage of the IP address by the system is necessary to enable the website to be delivered to the user’s computer. For this purpose, the user’s IP address must remain stored for the duration of the session.

The data is stored in log files to ensure the functionality of the website, to optimize the content of the website, and to ensure the security of our information technology systems. The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required for the purpose for which it was collected. In the case of data collection for the provision of the website, this is the case when the respective session has ended. In the case of data storage in log files, this is the case after seven days at the latest. Storage beyond this period is possible. In this case, the IP addresses of the users are deleted or alienated so that it is no longer possible to assign the calling client.

Contact options
If you contact us via the contact form or email, the data you provide will be used to process your request. The provision of this data is necessary for processing and responding to your request—without it, we cannot respond to your request or can only respond to it to a limited extent. The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6 (1) lit. b GDPR. Your data will be deleted once your request has been answered and there are no legal retention obligations preventing deletion.

Cookies
This website uses cookies. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer’s hard drive and assigned to the browser you are using, and through which certain information flows to the entity that sets the cookie. When you visit a website, a cookie may be stored on your computer’s operating system. This contains a characteristic string of characters that enables the browser to be uniquely identified when you visit the website again. Transient and persistent cookies are used. Transient cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser. These include, in particular, session cookies. These store a so-called session ID, which can be used to assign various requests from your browser to the shared session. This allows your computer to be recognized when you return to our website. Session cookies are deleted when you log out or close your browser. Persistent cookies are automatically deleted after a specified period, which may vary depending on the cookie. The legal basis for data processing is Art. 6 (1) lit. e GDPR in conjunction with § 4 HmbDSG: Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller. Our legitimate interest lies in making this website as user-friendly as possible.

As a user, you have full control over the use of cookies. You can disable or restrict the transfer of cookies by changing your Internet browser settings. Cookies that have already been saved can be deleted at any time. This can also be done automatically. If cookies are disabled for our website, it may no longer be possible to use all of the website’s functions to their full extent.
